Chapter Five

“I remember talking with Betty Allgood then.” Barry shifted in his seat as the memory flooded his brain. “Were you listening when I added I had no interest in dating anybody on the faculty?”

Paul shook his head. “Well, I kind of zoned out after what you first said. I only went to your office to hang out. I hadn’t thought up a reason to stay, figuring something would come to me if I showed up.”

“Cute, yes. I admit I made that statement more for her benefit. No, it was for me. Miss Allgood had asked me out a few times, and I always declined the offers. I hadn’t come out to the school, and I still haven’t made a formal announcement, but I ended up hinting to her why it wouldn’t work between us. Did everything but draw her a picture.”

Paul frowned. “So…nobody at Castlewood knows you’re gay? Everybody in my class pretty much picked up on it.”

“There weren’t cell phones and Wi-Fi back then. Less interference in the air meant the gaydar worked better.” They laughed for a moment, and Barry added, “Being serious, now, I don’t have to come out. People think what they wish, and if a student asks, I’m open about it. There’s no need to call an assembly, and I’m not the only homosexual teacher there.”

“I have heard stories about others,” Paul said.

“I live my life, and so does everybody else. My sexual preference is a non-issue, and it’s how I like it. It’s how life should be.” After a beat of silence, Barry added, “Maybe, in my own way, I did come out. I recall seeing Miss Allgood whispering to a new female teacher in the lounge one day. They were looking right at me. She could have been discouraging the girl.”

Paul remembered Miss Allgood and imagined the younger teacher assumed her flirty superior had ulterior motives.

“Our date isn’t over yet.” He set his drink aside.

“I’m aware of the fact.”

“Is there anything special you wanted to do? There’s plenty to see in Manhattan. Lots of good places to eat.” He threw out a few suggestions, emboldened when Barry shook his head at each one. Paul also preferred to stay in and make the most of this one night.

“I could also take you into the bedroom and lick your asshole until you come.” Paul tried to sound nonchalant, like suggesting dim sum in Chinatown.

“Let me guess, a line from a movie?” Barry laughed.

“Not one I’ve made, or plan to.”

“Maybe you should try sexier roles. You sounded nice and husky for a moment there.”

The compliment heated him right down to his toes, and his cock throbbed once more. He caught his breath and took Barry’s hand when the other man stood and offered it. In silence, they walked into the next room where Barry tugged at the cloth belt keeping Paul’s robe in place. The heavy terry material slumped to the carpet, and he flushed at Barry’s appraisal of him.

“Lie back,” Barry instructed and hooked his thumbs under the waist of his pajama pants to nudge them away.
